News from the Senate Commission on Climate
At its meeting on 12 July 2023, the Senate of OVGU approved the draft resolution of the Senate Commission on Climate to concretise the goal of net greenhouse gas neutrality.
In line with the climate protection goal of the city of Magdeburg, which aims for net greenhouse gas neutrality in 2035, the OVGU, as a forward-looking and innovative institution, should not only pursue this goal, but also set an example. With this resolution, OVGU is also contributing to achieving the planned net greenhouse gas neutrality of the state and the federal government by 2045.
Excerpt from the Senate resolution of 12.07.2023:
"The University of Magdeburg will develop a first draft of a climate protection strategy by the end of 2023, which aims to significantly reduce all location-related CO2 emissions by 2030. Even though for a university with a technical profile [...] setting a defined date for achieving climate neutrality [...] is an enormous challenge, the OVGU defines the climate-neutral campus by 2030 as a goal to strive for. This applies in the areas of energy and mobility and by 2035 the implementation of net greenhouse gas neutrality is to be achieved in all areas."
