Structure
Thanks to their shorter decision-making channels, smaller committees and lean structures, medium-sized universities like that in Magdeburg are in a position to react quickly and flexibly to specific demands in science, industry and society. The University of Magdeburg is led by a President\\\\'s office to which the President, and the Vice Presidents for Academic Development and Financial Planning, for Research, Technology and Equal Opportunities, and for Academic Affairs as well as the Chancellor belong. The elected Senate is an important institution of self-governance. A Board of Trustees with external members is available for advice and support in all important matters.
The compact campus is home to nine faculties, two research centres and ten central facilities in which research, teaching and studying take place. An inherent part of the institution is University Medicine Magdeburg, to which the Faculty of Medicine and the University Clinic Magdeburg belong. The efficiently structured university management, whose operations are administered by the Chancellor, consists of six departments. As intermediaries between the university and industry, affiliated institutes and the Technology Transfer Centre facilitate access to university research resources for companies. Thanks to its position at the heart of Germany and its history, Otto von Guericke University is seen as a bridge between Western and Eastern Europe. This is particularly evident in the comprehensive internationalization of its teaching and research.
Microtechnology Support Unit
In the future too, microtechnology and chip production will be essential for the development of new technologies. For this reason, at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, the “Microtechnology” support unit has been ensconced in the Office of the President. As an important interface, it combines and coordinates the activities of the university in this area and is a point of contact for questions from policy makers, non-university scientific institutions and regional industry.
