Activities 2024

• Greenhouse gas balance of business travel in 2022 (06/2024)
  • With various assumptions and the invoicing of business trips via WinTrip, an initial analysis of the emissions from business trips in 2022 was carried out. The business travel working group is still working on a corresponding document for better traceability.
• Lecture: Sustainable building - room for manoeuvre and its impact (05/2024)
  • Matthias Schäpers from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB e.V.) gave a presentation with the aim of informing the university public and members of the Senate Commission about sustainable building. The presentation focussed on key criteria for sustainable and climate-friendly construction and also addressed aspects that have a significant impact on climate friendliness at low cost. Afterwards, Mr Schäpers was available to answer questions.
• Input presentation on the Rothensee waste-to-energy plant (01/2024)
  • Ms Eckhardt (Energy/Process Engineering), Dr Ralf Borghardt (Technical Director) and Mr Busch (SWM) will explain how the waste-to-energy plant works in more detail. The presentation was followed by an opportunity to ask questions.

Activities 2022/ 2023

• Specifying the goal of a climate-neutral OVGU: At its meeting on 12.07.2023, the OVGU Senate approved the draft resolution of the Senate Climate Commission to specify the goal of net greenhouse gas neutrality. “By the end of 2023, the University of Magdeburg will develop a first draft of a climate protection strategy that aims to significantly reduce all site-related CO2 emissions by 2030. Even if for a university with a technical profile [...] setting a defined date for achieving climate neutrality [...] represents an enormous challenge, OVGU defines the climate-neutral campus by 2030 as a goal to be pursued. This applies to the areas of energy and mobility, and by 2035, net greenhouse gas neutrality is to be achieved in all areas.”
  
• Working Groups: Senate proposal greenhouse gas neutrality; commute mobility; business travel; bicycle transportation; public relation; energy saving, energy generation, reuse/refurbish. 
• Position paper on the establishment of the non-permanent senate commission on climate was prepared
  
  •  Senate approval in March 2022 and establishment of Senate Climate Commission by resolution
• A draft of the rules of procedure for the Senate Commission on Climate has been prepared.
  • Adoption of the rules of procedure at the constituent meeting of the commission on 24.03.2022
  • Silke Rühmland (Head of the Sustainability Office) currently chairs and manages the organization
• Idea pitch for a climate-neutral OVGU by the Students for Climate Justice supported by the Rectorate Commission Climate on 07.12.2021
  • many ideas for mobility, campus redesign or combination of parking with electricity generation
  • an idea for energy-efficient behavior of employees regarding the used IT-infrastructures
