The Legal Office (K-R) provides legal services for the Rectorate, the faculties, the central university administration and the central institutions in all matters concerning Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, including litigation before the administrative courts, the labor court and Magdeburg District Court. This does not include the provision of legal information in private matters to employees.

The scope of duties includes, in particular, public law (focus on university law including examination law), statute law including legal formalities (including study and examination regulations), labor law and contract law including copyright and employee invention law. Furthermore, the university's holdings in companies are supervised and legal support is provided for spin-off activities of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
