Lecture & Talk: Diversity@University: Realities, Wishes & Ways to a University for All

October 13, 2021, 6-7:30 p.m.

Steintor Campus Lecture Hall 1 + digital

An event of the Prevention & Counseling Center Antidiscrimination and the Equal Opportunity Office of MLU.

A look at our society and the city of Halle (Saale) shows us: very diverse people live and work here. Article 21 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights lists a long list of characteristics on the basis of which people may not be discriminated against. But what does a look at the university in general and our university in particular reveal? Diversity is present here, too. But to an extent that is representative of society? And in all conceivable positions? Does everyone feel equally welcome? So much in advance: rather not. Why is that? Are there areas that are particularly affected by exclusion? What could a university look like in which everyone really feels comfortable and has equal opportunities - and how do we get there?

It is still a long way ... and we can't answer all these questions in 90 minutes. But we would like to encourage you, who are new at the university, to think about these questions and to motivate you to take a critical and committed look at the university and its entry, exit and advancement processes.

and its entry, exit and promotion mechanisms and to join us on our way.

To start the discussion, Prof. Dr. Andrea D. Bührmann (Institute for Diversity Research at the University of Göttingen) will give a lecture on the topic "strategic ways to more inclusion at universities" and afterwards join us in a conversation.
