Online lecture and discussion: "Political Bodies. Of Care and Solidarity"

18.01.2022 -

Content: "The idea of recognising ourselves as different and yet treating ourselves as equals" marks a challenge that ignites political theory and practice alike. The body is a site of this challenge, for it points to a fundamental dimension of equality while at the same time becoming a political deployment site of structural inequality.

Starting from a historical reconstruction of the relationship between body and politics and incorporating contemporary approaches from political theory and practice, Jule Govrin presents a precise analysis of the (after)effects of the Corona pandemic, wherein not only "the old patterns of order" that "make bodies unequal" come to light, but also bodies and the forms of solidarity that accompany them become "experienceable in a different way". The vanishing point of her work is the question of the role of the body in the struggle for a "universalism from below", in order to tie in with a discussion of contemporary human rights practice.

The online event is open to all interested parties and is kindly supported by the OVGU Office for Gender Equality.
