Objectives
It is a research-oriented degree programme in which the perspectives of sociology (e.g. social inequality, health sociology and social structure analysis) and political science (e.g. international relations, European societies) are complemented by contributions from other disciplines (education, psychology, history, etc.). In terms of content, the programme is characterised by the advanced and in-depth analysis of the processes of interwoven social systems as well as institutions and individuals. With the Master's programme in Social Sciences, the competence is acquired to theoretically analyse and empirically research social science issues, especially in the fields of successful lifestyles, the discussion of the good society, the fields of education and society as well as questions of participation and sustainability, to derive recommendations for action and to conduct scientific communication. In the MA programme, in-depth competences in qualitative and quantitative methods are acquired. The aim of the programme is to enable social scientists to think through scientific or practical problems from different perspectives, to place them in a larger social context and to work on them in a well-founded way using scientific methods appropriate to the subject matter.
