Entry requirements
The applicant has a bachelor's degree, a university degree, or a comparable degree from a state or state-recognized university of cooperative education, a Magister or a degree course in medical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, physics, mathematics engineering or in a technically related direction.
First degree of at least 'good' (up to 2.5 in the German academic grading system)
A completed degree must have:
- at least 20 CP (ECTS) in mathematics
- at least 15 CP (ECTS) in physics / medical physics
- at least 20 CP (according to ECTS) in the field of electrical engineering and information technology / electronics
- at least 10 CP (ECTS) in computer science / programming
- at least 5 CP (according to ECTS) in the field of anatomy/physiology.
Not more than 30CP should be missing from the CP listed above. Otherwise an admission is associated with additional study requirements (e.g. in math, physics, computer science or electrical engineering) which have to be fulfilled within the first two semesters of the master course.
Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the English language (IELTS >= 6.5, TOEFLS >= 90).

Objectives
Based on the prior knowledge of engineering and natural sciences obtained during the bachelor, the master programme offers in depth studies of medical systems engineering, in particular medical technology, medical informatics and medical physics. Among others, the students can specialize and gain broad knowledge in the following fields: medical imaging, neuroscience, medical interventions and deep learning. Please check the module descriptions for more detailed information. Due to the close contact to the Magdeburg University Hospital, the students have the extraordinary chance to take part in surgeries and see the daily clinical work, recognize existing problems and develop solutions which support or help the physician and/or patients.
Career Perspectives
Development engineer in medical engineering industry; computer scientist in a hospital, in the healthcare system, in the medical industry; developer of intelligent human interfaces, amongst others multimodal device handling, user adaptive control; scientist in industrial, clinical and academical research in the field of medicine and brain science; consultant for embedded medical systems and machines; product management and sales of medical systems and machines; freelance work in the field of medical engineering and medical informatics.
Competencies and Interests Required
Profound knowledge of electrical engineering, computer science or physics. Basic knowledge in biology, anatomy or physiology is advantageous but not a premise. The future student should have interests in medical engineering and neurosciences. The aim is solve medical or clinical problems using engineering methods.
