Objectives
On the AI Engineering - Artificial Intelligence in the Engineering Sciences program, the students acquire a range of skills in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the engineering sciences. The students are trained, using various case studies, to assess whether AI approaches might help in solving technical problems. They learn to develop and implement appropriate industrial AI systems. With an interdisciplinary education in AI and engineering as well as computer science, the students gain a comprehensive grounding in basic and specialist knowledge of the development and application of AI methods and AI technologies.
Majors
- Manufacturing, Production and Logistics (Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg)
- Biomechanics and Smart Health Technologies (Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences)
- Mobile Systems and Telematics (Harz University of Applied Sciences)
- Agribusiness and Agricultural Engineering (Anhalt University of Applied Sciences)
- Green Engineering (Merseburg University of Applied Sciences)
Career Perspectives
Graduates of the AI Engineering - Artificial Intelligence in the Engineering Sciences program may be employed in a variety of different industrial sectors, as artificial intelligence is used in many areas of engineering. These include, among others:
- Automobile industry: development of self-driving cars and autonomous mobility solutions
- Production and manufacturing: optimization of manufacturing processes through the use of AI and automation technology
- Logistics: planning and control of logistics processes and supply chains with the help of AI systems
- Energy and environmental technology: improving the energy efficiency of buildings or the development of environmentally-friendly energy systems with the help of AI technologies
- Sports and Healthcare: Development of Smart Health Technologies for innovative products and systems in medical technology, motion analysis and sports research.
Competencies and Interests Required
Solid knowledge of mathematics, and in particular analysis and linear algebra, as well as natural science subjects such as physics, chemistry and biology is advantageous for successfully completing the Bachelor's program in AI Engineering - Artificial Intelligence in the Engineering Sciences. A good mastery of the English language is also important, as the majority of the specialist literature is written in English.
To be able to solve complex technical problems with the help of AI methods, it is important to have an understanding of the areas of technical application in which AI methods can be used. An interest in pioneering subjects and technologies is therefore desirable.
As the AI Engineering program has an interdisciplinary orientation, students should also have the ability to get to grips with a range of different subject areas and to consider them in relation to AI applications. The ability to work in teams and communication skills are therefore additional important skills that are required on the study program.
More information
The program is a cooperative study program with four universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt (Anhalt, Harz, Magdeburg-Stendal and Merseburg Universities of Applied Sciences). The Faculties of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science share responsibility for the program at OVGU.
The first four semesters take place at the University of Magdeburg. Afterwards, the students specialize in one particular field at the relevant university.
