In Germany, all students are generally required to have health insurance in accordance with Section 5 [1] no. 9 of the German social security code, SGB V), which means they have to provide proof of their insurance status from a statutory health insurance fund in order to enrol. Compulsory insurance exists throughout the entire course of study.

The existing paper-based proof of insurance is being replaced at Otto von Guericke University by a paperless, automatic student reporting process. Therefore, from January 1st 2022 it will no longer be possible to register on paper.
