PhD scholarship (Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation)

The aim of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation is to contribute to democracy, social justice and solidarity as well as to the equalisation of social, gender or ethnic disadvantages through political education. These goals form the basis of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation's study and doctoral funding.

The Foundation awards scholarships to students and doctoral candidates from Germany and abroad,

  • who can demonstrate a pronounced political or social commitment in the sense of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation
  • have outstanding academic or scholastic achievements
  • have a connection to the Foundation

The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation's scholarship programme offers its scholarship holders an extensive non-material support programme for further education and self-organised learning; participation in this programme is expected:

  • Workshops to increase competence in science, politics and practice.
  • Doctoral seminars, conferences, holiday academies
  • Regional meetings and working groups
  • Educational trips and excursions

Scholarship holders can also contribute their skills to the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation's diverse activities at home and abroad.

Application requirements:

  • Admission to a doctorate at a state or state-recognised university in Germany,
  • Doctoral candidates with German citizenship can also be admitted to a doctorate in another EU country or Switzerland.
  • A convincing doctoral exposé

Funding is not available for:

  • Doctoral degrees,
  • doctorate alongside gainful employment,
  • doctorates in the fields of human medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine
